21st Century Blues
Father – daughter jazz duo Dick and Christa Hughes will party like it’s 1929 at the Lismore City Hall.
Christa Hughes is well known to audiences as a blues belter, vaudeville vamp, rock ‘n’ roll hell cat and cabaret chanteuse, the front woman in Machine Gun Fellatio and the ring-mistress of Circus Oz. Dick Hughes is Australia’s best-loved jazz pianist, the Godfather of Stride in Sydney, and the first solo jazz pianist to ever play at Sydney Opera House. Last year the two artists united to record 21st Century Blues (ABC Music). They were joined by Bob Barnard and Jim Conway amongst many other fine musicians in a beautiful recording of jazz and blues songs of the 1920s and 30s.
The show will include songs from the album, some gut-bucket blues and traditional Dixieland as well as contemporary pop and classic rock played in a very old style – think hard-hitting, thumping, in-ya-face, doof-doof remixed for 1920s gramaphone.
Now these two stars will perform together in Lismore. Take your seat for what will be a surprising and beautiful night of music.
